How to access ShadowX Market via Tor
Full walkthrough from a fresh computer to your first logged-in session on ShadowX. Assumes you have never used Tor before. If you have, skip to step three and verify the address.
Step one: install Tor Browser
Download it from torproject.org. The file is about 25 megabytes. Verify the PGP signature on the download if you want to be thorough; most people skip this and it is fine for a first session. Install it like any other program. On Windows it goes in your user folder, not Program Files, and that is normal.
Once installed, open it. The first launch takes 20 to 40 seconds to build the circuit. You will see a progress indicator in the top right. Do not navigate to any .onion address until the indicator turns green.
Step two: set your security level
Click the onion icon in the top right corner. You will see a security level slider. For ShadowX, "Safest" is the right setting. It disables JavaScript and web fonts by default, which is what you want. The ShadowX interface does not need JavaScript to function. If you later find that a specific page element does not load, you can temporarily lower it to "Standard" for that one page.
One caveat: at "Safest" level, some images on the ShadowX product pages may not render. This is a visual issue only. Your order, your escrow, your PGP key: none of that is affected.
Step three: enter the onion address
Copy the address from the mirrors section on this page. Paste it into the Tor Browser address bar and press Enter. The first load takes 30 to 90 seconds because Tor is building a new circuit to the hidden service. Subsequent loads are faster, usually under 15 seconds.
When the ShadowX homepage appears, check the address bar. The .onion string you see should match character for character with what is listed on this page. If even one character is different, you are on a clone. Close the tab, do not refresh, and start over from step one.
Step four: register with your PGP key
Click "Register" on the ShadowX homepage. You will be asked for a username and a PGP public key. If you do not have a key yet, generate one now. The fastest way is to use GnuPG on your machine or any online key generator. The key should be at least 2048 bits; 4096 is better but slower to generate.
Paste the public half (the block that starts with "-----BEGIN PGP PUBLIC KEY BLOCK-----") into the registration form. Keep the private half on your machine. Do not email it, do not post it on a forum, do not save it in a cloud folder. If the private key leaks, someone else can log in as you.
Step five: confirm and start browsing
After registration, ShadowX sends a confirmation to the PGP key you provided. Decrypt it with your private key to confirm. Once confirmed, your account is active. You can browse the market, add items to your cart, and make your first purchase.
For your first order, pick something cheap. A small item lets you test the full cycle: order, escrow, vendor ships, you confirm delivery, escrow releases. The whole process takes three to ten days depending on the vendor and your region. Once you have completed one full cycle, you know the system works and you can buy with confidence.
Common first-time mistakes
Using the wrong Tor version. ShadowX requires Tor Browser 12 or later. If you are on an older version, the .onion address may resolve but the site will not load properly. Check your version in the About menu.
Pasting the address with a trailing slash. The .onion address does not need a trailing slash. "shadowxbcmg5...onion/" works, but "shadowxbcmg5...onion" is cleaner and avoids a redirect that some security tools flag.
Registering with a weak PGP key. A 1024-bit key is technically accepted by ShadowX but is not considered secure by most crypto standards. If you are generating a new key for this purpose, use 4096. It takes about 30 seconds on a modern CPU.
Buying from a vendor with fewer than 50 feedback entries. Not a rule, but a practical one. New vendors on ShadowX are not automatically bad, but the feedback count is the cheapest signal you have about whether they will actually ship. If you are buying something over 50 dollars, stick to vendors with 100+ entries.
